After placing an order, customers naturally want to know when the work will begin and how long it will take to clean and improve the grave plot.
Cleaning and maintaining a standard grave plot at the cemetery can often be completed within a single working day. The exact duration depends on the condition of the plot and the services ordered, such as removing weeds and old debris, levelling the ground, replacing sand or a sand-and-gravel mixture, cleaning the headstone and carrying out other necessary work.
However, a quick result does not mean that the task is simple. Before the Angelio team arrives at the cemetery, we must verify the burial details, assess the scope of the work, select the required materials and arrange all the practical details.
Why does the work not always begin immediately after an order?
Some time may pass between placing an order and the beginning of the work. This time is needed for proper preparation.
Before visiting the cemetery, the Angelio team checks:
- the location of the grave and the name of the cemetery;
- the current condition of the grave plot;
- the size and specific features of the plot;
- the work that needs to be completed;
- access for delivering tools and materials;
- the rules and requirements of the particular cemetery;
- the weather conditions and the state of the ground.
If the customer does not know the exact location of the grave, we must first locate the burial site and confirm that it is situated in the specified cemetery.
More extensive maintenance may require a preliminary inspection. This allows us to assess the condition of the plot, calculate the required amount of materials and recommend a suitable solution.
Preparation takes more time than it may seem
From the customer’s perspective, the work begins when the Angelio team arrives at the cemetery. By that point, however, a significant part of the process has already been completed.
Before starting the work, we must plan the route, arrange the schedule, prepare the tools and order the necessary materials. If the sand needs to be replaced, a decorative surface material needs to be added or other improvements are required, everything must be delivered to the cemetery in advance.
We also consider the location of the grave plot and how easily it can be accessed. At some cemeteries, vehicles cannot be parked close to the plot. Tools and heavy materials may therefore need to be carried over a considerable distance.
If additional specialists or particular materials are required, their availability and delivery must also be coordinated.
What determines how long the work takes?
The duration of the work depends mainly on the size and condition of the grave plot.
Standard grave cleaning may include:
- removing leaves, branches and old candle containers;
- removing weeds;
- levelling the sand or sand-and-gravel mixture;
- cleaning the surface of the headstone;
- tidying the area around the grave plot;
- placing a new memorial candle.
If the headstone, border, kerbstones or paving are heavily soiled or covered with moss, more thorough chemical cleaning may be required. This takes longer than regular maintenance cleaning.
The weather, ground moisture, number of graves within the plot and ease of access can also affect the duration of the work.
Why can an experienced team work more efficiently?
Efficiency does not depend solely on the number of people involved. Experience, the correct order of tasks and careful preparation are equally important.
Our specialists determine in advance which tools and materials will be needed for each grave plot. This avoids interruptions caused by missing equipment and eliminates unnecessary return visits to the cemetery.
Good organisation allows the grave plot to be cleaned and maintained carefully without rushing. The priority is the quality of the result, not simply completing the order as quickly as possible.
The weather and season also matter
Work at a cemetery depends on the weather. Heavy rain and frozen or excessively wet ground can make it difficult to level the plot properly, replace the sand or clean the headstone effectively.
In such cases, it is better to postpone the work until conditions improve. This is done not for the convenience of the team, but to ensure a neater and longer-lasting result.
The number of orders increases in spring and before important remembrance days. We therefore recommend ordering grave cleaning or maintenance in advance, especially if the work must be completed by a particular date.
Good results begin with careful preparation
If the work at the cemetery has not yet begun, it does not mean that your order is being ignored. We may be confirming the location of the grave, assessing its condition, preparing materials or waiting for suitable weather.
Careful preparation helps the Angelio team complete the work properly, efficiently and within the agreed timeframe.
If you are unable to maintain the grave of a loved one yourself, Angelio can arrange one-time or regular grave cleaning in Ida-Viru County. We provide services in Narva, Jõhvi, Kohtla-Järve, Sillamäe and other nearby locations.
